Recently, BYD announced the launch of the medium-sized electric bus J7 for the Japanese market. Reservations for the model are set to start on January 1, 2024, and deliveries are due to begin in the fall of 2025.

With a maximum seating capacity of 61 people, the medium-sized electric bus J7 is equipped with BYD’s Blade Battery. It boasts a single-charge range of up to 250 kilometers while ensuring high safety standards. Additionally, the interior of the bus features a fully flat cabin with an expanded interior space and a high cruising range.

Currently, Japan is experiencing a rapid increase in demand for green public transportation. In 2015, BYD Japan introduced five K9 electric buses to Kyoto. Since then, BYD has expanded its product lineup, including the J6, a small electric bus that is ideal for community transportation, and the K8, a 10.5-meter electric bus tailored for route buses. BYD has constantly developed new products, which are compatible with Japan’s CHAdeMO charging standard. To enhance the charging efficiency and to better meet consumers’ demand, BYD has signed agreements with various Japanese charger manufacturers.

Currently, BYD holds a share of over 70 percent in the Japanese electric bus market and aims to achieve cumulative sales of 4,000 buses in the country by 2030.

Looking forward, BYD will remain committed to meeting the growing demand for green public transportation and promoting sustainable development in collaboration with Japanese partners through the introduction of new technologies and products.
