On 21st May, CML celebrated its third year of supporting Berkshire-based motorsport charity, KartForce, by entering a girls’ team, ‘Driving Miss Daisy’, and a boys’ team, ‘The Speed Demons’, for a special race day in Newark. The day saw several employees take part in a 3-hour endurance race against 16 other teams of ranging ability and experience from across the UK.
The day proved a huge success for the team at CML, as Managing Director, Mark Webb, commented: “KartForce works tirelessly to change the lives of ex-servicemen and women that are recovering from both physical injuries and mental health issues. We are incredibly proud to be able to support a charity that does so much to help those who risk their lives for our country and make such a difference to their rehabilitation. From first seeing them on ITV’s hit television program, Surprise Surprise at the end of 2014, KartForce has been an inspiration to me and I have endless amounts of respect for what they have all achieved.
“Even though we didn’t make it onto the podium on the day, the whole event was a fantastic experience, a great way to get everyone together to enjoy a day of exhilaration and excitement, and the first of what we hope will be many race days to come. It also gave the team an opportunity to reflect on the sacrifices made by our troops in the line of duty. As a charity whose funding comes primarily from businesses and individuals, we are honoured to support KartForce and raise awareness of the great work they do.”
The Lutterworth-based end-to-end logistics firm has helped towards the running of KartForce’s maintenance garage since 2014. Set up by Dave Player in 2010, KartForce supports serving and wounded ex-service men and women who enjoy competitive racing, whilst socialising with individuals that have shared the same experience as them.
Commenting on CML’s race day, Founder and former Royal Engineer, Dave Player said: “The race day was a great success and we were delighted to have employees from CML taking part. Often a predominantly male sport, it was also great to see several women out on the track enjoying themselves. The support we receive from CML goes a long way to ensuring we continue to support our ex-service men and women throughout their rehabilitation and show them that no matter what their injury is, it doesn’t have to hold them back.”
